This week, a Meridian trash truck was splattered when a bag containing used motor oil burst during pickup. Last week, unbagged medical waste caused safety concerns for our collection crew. Both incidents are serious hazards for workers, create environmental risks, and lead to costly cleanups.
The Rockingham County Landfill — which adheres to strict federal rules and regulations — determines what can and cannot be placed in our Town trash toters. Used motor oil and medical waste are not permitted under these rules.
In addition to regular disposal services, the landfill offers specific dates for hazardous waste collection, providing a safe and legal way to dispose of materials that cannot go in your household trash. As residents of Rockingham County, this is a valuable resource we all have access to.
How to Properly Dispose of Used Motor Oil
Used motor oil can be safely disposed of at the Rockingham County Landfill. Please do not place it in trash bags, trash cans, or curbside toters.
